Dog Stories by James Herriot - Book Review

James Herriot's Dog Stories: Warm And Wonderful Stories About The Animals Herriot Loves Best

I took more than a month to finish this book. This is huge considering I am a voracious reader. Dog Stories is all about dogs that James Herriot has met during his rural practice. James Herriot is the pen name of James Alfred Wight, an English surgeon and writer.

James Herriot is a veterinary doctor who had a special place in his heart for dogs, while living in an era when taking care of small animals wasn't considered a big deal. James Herriot has devoted much of his time to this four legged species... He himself was escorted by the man's best friends to most of the places during his practice...

This book is for dog lovers...The book consists of 50 short stories related to his experiences with different dogs. He illustrates the dog, his/her characteristics along with a complete picture of the owner or the household to which it belongs. This makes these stories an interesting read.

The only reason why I took so much time to finish this book was that each story was 5 or 6 pages long and the shift in the context between the end and start of the stories usually brings a logical break during reading... Then like most things, too much of dogs at one go is not good for anyone :)

Will recommend it to anyone who has a soft corner to this four legged species. If you are aware of the different types of dogs, it will be more interesting as you can visualize things more clearly. Beagle, sheep dog, rottweiler etc.

I have Marley and Me in my "to-read" list, but not too eager as I have already watched the movie twice
